I studied and practiced T’ai Chi and Chi Gong starting in early 1990s. I found T’ai Chi Chih (TCC) in 2014 when my first teacher, Judy George, led a TCC demonstration at my local library. Pulling in the Energy connected me with a subtle, yet palpable energy in the circle we made in that little conference room, as we all moved together. I wanted to be able to connect with”that sensibility” and sought Judy out as my teacher.
Justin Stone said that T’ai Chi Chih meets you where you are. Yes, where I am is often familiar territory, but sometimes new! TCC offers a way in to connection with myself, others and the mysterious and beautiful world around me. I am working with this gentle and patient teacher to practice being present in the slow, graceful movements of TCC. I seek to apply what I am learning about presence to my day to day life. No matter that the challenges to being present are often great, TCC meets me where I am.
TCC combined with my curiosity, observation and study of communication in my career is a helpful lens in which to view what it means to be present, to listen and to receive others with an open heart and mind. It is in that place that our voice, our message and our actions are clearest. Good teaching for me, needs to come from a place of deeply trusting that “who” “what” and “where” we really are is very good. That place is always there waiting.
