On my first visit to China back in 1984, I saw many people in the park in Shanghai doing slow, rhythmic movements. Swaying and moving with the most peaceful expressions on their faces. Wow! I wondered what this was. I needed to find out. I walked around the park and watched for a while. Since this was right after China opened up to the West, the people hadn’t seen Westerners very much. They stared at me and I stared at them!
Upon returning home, my friend asked me to take a T’ai Chi class with her. I joined her and was immediately a changed person. Fortunately for me it was a T’ai Chi Chih class. I’ve tried many forms and while I enjoy them all, T’ai Chi Chih resonates most with me. 19 moves and a pose. I could do it!
I’ve been teaching since around 1992 in San Diego, CA.
