Once upon a time, an old man—well, an older man—went to the doctor for his yearly physical. “Doc,” he said, “I’m thinking of taking yoga to help with my balance.” The doctor replied, “T’ai Chi would be better.”
I had recently moved across town (and yes, I am that “older” man) and noticed the local Senior Center about a mile and a half from my house. Its sign flashed: “We have pickleball, yoga, and T’ai Chi.” It was listed as T’ai Chi, but to my great fortune, it was actually T’ai Chi Chih. I signed up for the class, and after the very first week, I was hooked.
Since then, this gentle, meditative movement practice has become a steady companion in my life. I’ve practiced for over seven years, and in November 2024, I became an accredited T’ai Chi Chih teacher after completing intensive training and one-on-one work with several experienced instructors.
I now have the joy and honor of sharing this practice with others. My teaching focuses on the flow of Chi, the balance of Yin and Yang, and the calming, continuous movements that define T’ai Chi Chih. I also bring the perspective of a Board Certified life coach, which helps me support students in developing mindfulness, self-care, and a deeper sense of well-being.
What T’ai Chi Chih Has Given Me:
- Better coordination and balance
- A greater sense of mindfulness and calm
- A centering practice to begin each day
- A community of caring classmates
- A deeper connection to life’s rhythm
Everyone’s experience is different—your benefits may be some of these, or entirely your own. If you’re curious about how T’ai Chi Chih can support your health, balance, and inner calm, I’d love to invite you to one of my classes. Come see what it can do for you.
