Why I practice and teach Tai Chi Chih Â
More than 30 years ago, a dear friend in Southern California offered to teach me Tai Chi Chih. Tais is an incredible instructor, and from our first class, I knew practicing Tai Chi Chih would become a lifelong passion.
I discovered that when I practice Tai Chi Chih, I feel more centered, more in tune with myself and my surroundings. This moving meditation created a space where I was able to clear my head, rebalance, and recharge. Practicing these gentle movements helped me to find a calm serenity that also energized with a feeling of inner strength and wellbeing. Tai Chi Chih is a valuable tool that can be used any time, anywhere.Â
UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute researchers report that practicing Tai Chi can improve immunity. “The improvements in both immunity and physical functioning were significant by widely accepted measures of each, and all with no surgery, no drugs, and no side effects,” said Dr. Michael Irwin. Medical, sports and University research organizations around the world are finding that practicing Tai Chi improves wellness, quality of life, balance, and immunity; improves motion and strength, reduces tension, and can lower blood pressure.
Some students come for Tai Chi Chih lessons for physical reasons and find that they have derived much deeper benefits including:
- feeling more relaxed
- inner peace
- increased creativity
- more confidence
- better reflexes
- increased circulation
- more energy
- improved balanceÂ
Many also experience improvements in chronic ailments like:
- asthma
- arthritis
- rheumatism
- weight management
- high blood pressure
What my students are saying…
“I really enjoyed the class and the practices. I liked the gentle approach and sensitivity to your participants; your explanations with a sense of caring and uplifting words create smiles. Benefits: able to do at home; I smile; I feel better with less aches; Tai Chi takes my backache away! No suggestions for improvements – your joyous, thoughtful, articulate class is wonderful!”    ~ Mel Ellis, Haddam Neck, Connecticut
“This was my first venture into Tai Chi. What a thrill. No over-exertion. Just slow concentration, muscle and brain control and nice folks doing the same. Sue knows this art and is a great teacher. She responds to each class member’s strengths and weaknesses without making any of us feel out of place. I experienced peace and harmony, both physically and mentally, and Tai Chi improved my balance. I can’t imagine a better instructor! You just know Sue loves what she does.”   ~ DLAF, Connecticut
“A Tai Chi class with Sue Weintraub is 45 minutes of pleasurable connection with your body, and the body in connection with the earth and nature. It teaches the arts of balance, mindfulness and energy as Sue guides you through the class. Sue, an expert in this ancient art, is a patient and encouraging teacher. She watches each student carefully, gently giving suggestions and corrections that help them achieve maximum benefits from the postures and movements of Tai Chi. The movements are gentle but require concentration as we flow from one position to the next, feeling a developing energy within ourselves and among our fellow students. These are moments when you feel a deep connection with the natural world and a sublime disconnect from all other distractions.”   ~ SG, Middle Haddam, CT
“I will be forever grateful to Sue Weintraub for generously sharing her Tai Chi knowledge with me. She was my teacher Summer of 2020. I needed a physically grounding experience and my lessons with her were all I had hoped for and more. She has years of irreplaceable knowledge of this practice. One can certainly look online for lessons and learn the physical skill, but to really know and experience Tai Chi, I recommend spending time with someone like Sue Weintraub who embodies Tai Chi in body and spirit.” ~ SF, August 2021
