Jessica enjoys working with and has taught students across the entire spectrum of age, health condition, and ability. Over the years her students have described her teaching style as “warm,” “authentic,” “personable,” “comforting,” and “like coming home to a wonderful hot meal.” The life-benefits Jessica has received from her dedication to the T’ai Chi Chih practice are, in her words, “simply indescribable.”
She offers all of the following (click the OTHER LOCATIONS tab above for more info):
- everything from curriculum-based T’ai Chi Chih Intro-Level classes, to Guided Practice (for more experienced students)
- one-on-one sessions (suitable for anybody or level of learning)
- a unique weekly community-based T’ai Chi Chih for Veterans class
- and a weekly Tai Chi for Veterans class (T’ai Chi Chih taught within the context of a federal program launched in 2019 by the VA Community Care Network … the only after-work Tai Chi class specifically for Veterans in the state of Delaware)
But Jessica especially enjoys mentoring TCC Teacher Candidates. In the brief time since her own Accreditation, she’s played a large role in the formation of 13 additional Instructors, plus was recently designated as one of the Community’s four Teacher Prep Coaches (learn more here www.TCCCommunity.net.)
Jessica has studied extensively with four of the Teacher Trainers as well as the Former International Guide, hosted and audited multiple Intensives, audited multiple Accreditations, and led or attended many extended retreats and workshops. In each instance — and even simply while teaching classes — she has found herself sinking ever deeper into her own understanding of the TCC practice. It’s also been Jessica’s direct experience that the Accreditation process sets a Teacher Candidate’s grasp of TCC principles and the subtleties of its movements on fire, and she is always both humbled and enlivened by witnessing and playing a role in that transformation.
Of course, each Teacher Candidate has different needs and therefore requires a deeply personalized mentoring process. Jessica can easily work in-person, on Zoom, in one-on-one settings or in small groups, so that everyone’s time is used as efficiently as possible. Candidates are often focused on the movements of individual body parts (which certainly are important!) But first developing an understanding of — and then continually delving deeper into — the effortless, integrative, and holistic flow of each TCC movement is key to becoming an ever-greater beneficiary of the TCC practice (which will literally inform a Candidate’s transformation into an effective and inspiring Teacher!)
Jessica also wants Candidates to understand how vitally important it is to be well-prepared for each step of the Accreditation process, but also that they don’t have to be perfect! Drawing on her extensive background in martial arts, Jessica has observed that the one thing TCC Accreditation shares with earning a Black Belt is this: in many ways, your Accreditation is simply the beginning of your deepest journey into the heart of TCC … in the end, teachers are simply students who have chosen to continually expand their understanding of the practice far more than they initially ever imagined possible.
If you are considering becoming an Accredited T’ai Chi Chih teacher, Jessica would love to help you explore your next steps! Feel free to reach out and schedule a conversation in order to begin moving together through this joyful, life-altering process.
