A Love-Hate Relationship with Pyramid Poems

Carmen Brocklehurst did a wonderful job discussing pyramid poems during this past summer’s T’ai Chi Chih (TCC) teacher conference. In the past, whenever pyramid poems were encouraged at a retreat, I would cringe and begrudgingly start the process of constructing a dreaded seven-line poem. For me, the process was about as enjoyable as a visit to the dentist.

Carmen encouraged us to start with the first word that came to us, then to listen to our heart as the rest of the words came through, slowly bubbling to the surface. As Carmen spoke, I wrote. To my amazement, the poem below materialized and honestly, it was good. Really good, coming through my being, from my heart and soul. Thank you, Carmen for your encouragement and guidance. This was the first time I have enjoyed creating a pyramid poem. I hope there are more pyramid poems in my future.
