Around the Platter of Breathing

By: Chris McLain

Fargo, North Dakota

My eldest daughter, Carrie, had an unanticipated heart attack. Amazingly she is in recovery but has also been doing T’ai Chi Chih (TCC) daily on her own for more than 400 days. I sincerely believe that she is in recovery because she chose to begin daily TCC practice on her own in Montana.

My youngest daughter Kath and her dad, Patrick, are accredited TCC instructors, as was my mom who has transitioned to the “other side.” Mom taught TCC at the Congregational Camps and Church Women United in Minnesota. It’s been a family affair, even after retirement. So grateful for Justin Stone, his guidance and friendship, and for creating TCC so we may continue our life evolution this time “around the platter of breathing.”

There are days when it’s challenging to practice TCC, yet I know that all I need to do is do it. Then I feel the spark of the tingling effect as Chi moves through my body and re-reminds me that all it takes is starting. Then Chi blesses me with willingness and energy comes. We are all blessed with the renewal that this incredible movement practice evokes.
