Benefits of TCC for Me

About six years ago, I hurt my left knee while trying to get out of my airplane seat in Boston. While twisting my body to reach my carry-on bag in the overhead bin, I felt a flash of pain in my knee. Later x-rays revealed I had a pulled a muscle, and my doctor suggested injections to alleviate the pain. Every eight months that’s what I did — along with a medicated gel. But still the aching knee would sometimes wake me up at night.

When I started T’ai Chi Chih (TCC) lessons with Rachel Rilinger in Kansas City, Missouri, in January 2022, my left knee was still aching, and I still got the regular injections. I began by practicing a few times a week. The more movements I learned, the more I increased my home practice. It was fun and it helped my balance. I took Justin’s saying to heart about practicing when you feel like and when you don’t. I recently realized that it’s been more than a year since my last injection or use of the medicated gel. My knee doesn’t hurt! It pops every now and then, but it’s not painful.

I credit TCC for helping strengthen my knee muscles and keeping my balance. Thank you, Justin Stone and all the TCC teachers for keeping the “Joy Through Movement” alive.
