Catholic sister relates shared viewpoint of sisters who teach TCC movements
By: Sr. Mary Reynolds
([Representing] Sisters at round table discussion):
The increasing number of Sisters becoming TCC teachers may be related to the centering aspects of the form. The movements often are a preparation for centering prayer and other Meditative practices. Many Sisters teach TCC in retreat and/or spirituality centers and attract persons who are interested in body prayer as a means of deepening their relationship with God, others and self.
Some prospective students are curious as to how the practice of TCC is compatible with our religious faith. This question presents the opportunity to clarify that we are not promoting a religion but are tapping into the ancient wisdom of another culture which, as in our tradition, reverences the pairedness of all life and promotes a compassionate attitude toward all creation.
