These thoughts emerged during my Zoom T’ai Chi Chih (TCC) practices.

The Interplay of Breath, Chi, Vibration, Light & Intention in TCC

The practice of TCC reveals a profound connection between breath, Chi (vital energy), vibration, light, and intention. Through dedicated practice, these elements interweave to facilitate transformation and spiritual growth.

The Foundation: Breath & Emptiness

In TCC, the natural breath serves as the foundation of practice. It naturally synchronizes with movement, gradually deepening through regular practice. This natural breathing pattern emerges not through forced control, but through gentle awareness and cultivation.

The practice begins with the intention to empty ourselves — to release, let go, and create space within. This emptying process leads us to a state of profound stillness, achievable even within movement. As we significantly slow our movements, we discover quiet spaces, stillness between breaths, between thoughts.

The Flow of Chi

As our practice deepens, the physical body begins to feel lighter, and the quality of Chi transforms. It becomes more ethereal, less dense. This transformation accompanies an expansion of both the physical body and our awareness. Our observational abilities sharpen, bringing greater clarity to our practice and daily life.

Through this refinement, practitioners begin to experience subtle vibrations — often felt as a gentle tingling throughout the body. This sensation indicates an attunement to Chi flowing at increasingly subtle levels. The body becomes more sensitive to these higher vibrational states.

The Emergence of Light

As we continue to deepen our practice, advanced practitioners may be experiencing light moving through their bodies like an electromagnetic field. This phenomenon aligns with Paul Reps who said that “we are creatures of light” and with Justin Stone who said that “we are the product of sound vibration.” Both are correct according to Justin in 20th Century Psalms.

Both insights capture different aspects of the same truth: as we empty ourselves and purify through practice, our physical, vital, and mental bodies can vibrate at higher frequencies while simultaneously becoming more receptive to inner light, inner clarity.

The Transformative Process

The natural synchronized breath with the TCC movements plays a crucial role in this transformative journey, acting as a vehicle for Chi transmission in both its vibrational and light aspects. Through consistent practice, this divine life force energy (Chi) flowing through us supports our growth, evolution, and transformation in several ways:

• It facilitates the purification of body and mind

• It enables access to higher vibrational states

• It increases our capacity to embody and transmit light

• It deepens our connection to the subtle aspects of being

The interplay of breath, Chi, vibration, light, and intention creates a dynamic system for spiritual development within the TCC practice. As we continue to empty ourselves and refine our practice, we open to increasingly subtle levels of experience and transformation.
