Benefits of Zoom

In early 2020 I agreed to teach T’ai Chi Chih (TCC) at two local recreation centers. Of course, due to Covid-19 the centers were shut down for several months. Even after the city opened them in mid-2020, few signed up for in-person classes. So, I offered a Zoom class through one of the rec centers, and because they were open to people outside the city, several friends around the country took the class. Each 8-week session had friends and local students. Even though many have returned to in-person classes in the past year, Zoom classes reach areas where there are no accredited teachers.

Since moving a year ago from North Texas to Albuquerque, I have continued to offer a free monthly practice on Zoom to these distant students. One student invited her husband with Parkinson’s who now says TCC has helped him with his balance.

A former coworker from Austin attends when she can leave work early enough. Andrea says, “Not only did I find companionship during an unprecedented time, I found a new practice of movement that made me feel graceful and content. Even on days when I had doubts about joining because of work or not feeling like it, I always felt better at the end than when I arrived. I am grateful to have learned TCC and hope to continue expanding my practice.”
