Growing the TCC Teacher Network in the UK

By: Adam Lacey & Laurin McDonald (both in Banbury

Oxfordshire)

In a world that’s increasingly seeking balance and wellbeing, T’ai Chi Chih (TCC) offers a gentle yet powerful path. Our vision is simple: to share TCC with as many students as possible, at minimal cost. But to do that, we need more teachers — more hearts and hands to carry the form forward.

Why We Teach

The driver behind this initiative is necessity. The demand for TCC is growing, and we need trained practitioners to meet it. Our outreach has extended to a wide range of wellness professionals — therapists, counsellors, mindfulness teachers, Reiki practitioners, and more — who already understand the value of holistic healing.

A Timeline of Growth

Our journey began in 2008–2009 with just two UK teacher candidates learning from Wendy Helms and Ev Hanson-Florin. Since then, we’ve steadily expanded through workshops, conferences, and serendipitous encounters — reaching healthcare workers, alternative therapists, and even forming connections in the Netherlands.

Key milestones include:

2016: Wellness Conference (two teachers)

2018–2020: Targeted workshops (two teachers)

2024: Mindfulness Conference (three teachers)

2025: Preparing four new teachers for accreditation (incorporating guidance from the new suggested curriculum)

2026 and beyond: Expanding outreach to educators, mental health specialists, and energy-based workers

The Path to Teaching

Becoming a TCC teacher is a journey, not a sprint. The training process is extensive and can include:

• Taster sessions and an eight-week introductory course

• 30 weekly Zoom sessions

• 5 full-day in-person workshops

• One-on-one sessions as needed

• An Intensive course followed by an Accreditation course

The timeline typically spans 12 to 18 months, with costs ranging from £1,115 to £1,365, depending on individual progress and group logistics.

What’s Next?

We’re actively seeking new teacher candidates and exploring ways to reach them — through taster sessions, articles, interviews, podcasts, away days, and conferences. Funding opportunities are also being pursued to support this growth.

As we say: “To walk the path of teaching is not to rush, but to root.” Let’s encourage this shared search to bloom in your community.
