TCC Kept Our Club Alive
The Pittsburg Fifty Plus Club is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of the senior citizens in Pittsburg, California. In 2012, we were facing a volunteer shortage. Current volunteers were burning out; current Club members were apathetic or uninvolved; new memberships were difficult to generate due to lack of program services.
With the introduction of T’ai Chi Chih (TCC) in 2015, came an influx of new members looking for balance in their lives. Many of these members became the volunteers we needed to keep the Club alive.
During the COVID quarantine, the TCC classes conducted via Zoom four days a week kept our members in touch with each other, giving them a respite from isolation. The positive impact of TCC on two of my students during this time was significant enough to propel them to become accredited TCC teachers. The rest of the Club benefited from our practices, as having the Zoom TCC classes helped us to secure grants to stay in business.
When I learned that the TCC Photo Text (3rd edition) would go out of print, I urged our Executive Board to donate the funds so it could be converted for subsequent printings. We have been blessed with TCC, as an organization and individuals. Through these blessings we express our gratitude to Justin Stone and TCC with donations to cover the costs of preserving Justin Stone’s teachings and Photo Text in this valuable printed format.
The Pittsburg Fifty Plus Club Corporation includes Benjamin Brisjar, Nelia Beaman, John Marquez, Holly Schaefer, and Jeannette Stotts.
