What Can I Possibly Learn

The 2023 T’ai Chi Chih (TCC) teacher conference was marvelous, and I am still feeling such gratitude to Caroline and her team for the incredible work they did and continue to do to bring us all such a memorable gift.

I must confess that I went into the conference this year with my ego saying, “After 24 years of practicing there is nothing more I can possibly learn about body mechanics.” Ha! Not so, little grasshopper! 

I took away many gems such as the fun way of focusing on shifting the weight to the front “dimes” in the soles of the feet in Bird Flaps Its Wings to make the sinking of the knees and the rising of the heels effortless. Lifting my hands slightly as I do Around the Platter brings a lovely new feeling of energy into my fingertips. Taking more time to rest between movements is making me feel more grounded. Hearing Justin articulate the chuee sound in Six Healing Sounds has changed the way I have sounded it for so long and has made that movement feel so much better. I am delighted to have learned some new body mechanics and to share these tips with my long-time students.

I do hope to focus more about the spiritual aspects of our practice as we go forward, but I realize as I write this that the focus on movement refinement (body mechanics) is as important spiritually as are our discussions. They continue to teach me as I explore those details and feel them in my body. TCC is a lifelong course from which, I most humbly and happily admit, I will never graduate.

Celebrate T’ai Chi Chih’s 50th Anniversary!

The first T’ai Chi Chih (TCC) class was taught by Justin Stone in 1974 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Plan to return to the source of Joy Thru Movement in July 2024. The in-person TCC teachers’ conference will be held Thursday, July 25th through Sunday, July 28th.

Our conference hotel, the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid, is holding a discounted block of 60 rooms for us, including two shoulder nights, pre- and post-conference. Make plans to come early or stay late and enjoy New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment.

Recent virtual conferences have allowed our TCC community to remain connected during Covid-19. We have also been longing for face-to-face personal interactions and exchanges of ideas.
